One thing that terrorists lose along the way is the ability to laugh for joy.
Have you noticed that bullies can’t laugh at themselves? They are as humorless as they are cowardly, and smile only when others are frightened and in pain. The terrorist’s highest calling is to reduce life, not enjoy it. He finds no real delight in his days, except for draining the delight in the days of another’s. Men like this find their pleasure – not in beauty and excellence – but when their victims are cowering in rubble.
On the other hand, you have the light-hearted. They are the souls who can sit with us in all the real suffering in this world, and still manage to find the joy. They are able to laugh with whole hearts in the hope that good will prevail and justice will reign. The light-hearted believe that laughter is poison to fear.

Our family loves Scott Hoy. Bless him, he truly wants to help. He really doesn’t like what’s going on, and he will do it until it stops! What it is, we’re not quite certain (even after 8,345 Hall household views) but – doggone it – we can be sure Scott is on it!
We enjoy Mr Hoy’s delivery so much that we’ve taken to discussing our daily dilemmas using his earnest and ever-pleasant style. For example in carpool: “I don’t know if it’s you boys in the back seat, or the football pads — or what. But I don’t like it. That smell needs to stop. Will you please stop? I’m Kim Hall.”
Or yesterday after school: “I don’t know if it’s the awful color, the incredible amount of kale — or what. But I don’t like it. These green smoothies need to stop, mom. Will you please stop? I’m Chase Hall.” (16).”
Even Colvin jumped in this morning: “I don’t know if it’s because my teacher’s brand-new, or she really likes math — or what. But I don’t like it! The crazy amount of math homework needs to stop, and I’ll do it ’til it stops. So will you please stop? I’m CeCe Hall.” (age 9).
So thank you Scott Hoy, for being exactly you. Thank you for making a commercial that made us laugh in a week when we all felt like crying. If you’re ever in Austin, please join us for dinner, math homework, carpool, or a delicious green smoothie. We would so love to have you.
